Hello, Gembira is here again! How are you?

Have I told you about my name’s meaning? It’s from an Indonesian word that means cheerful, happy, and joyful!

So today, I want to tell you about something to make your day better, because it sure has been getting warmer lately, hasn’t it? The weather is getting nicer and I believe it’s the perfect time to spend time with family, to grill and drink something.

Now, I’ll introduce you to Soju! If you don’t know about it yet, it’s an alcoholic drink from Korea and it is widely popular in its country of origin because It is also often served during meals with your colleagues after work, but there’s a catch!

In Korea, there is an etiquette on how to drink soju. The youngest person in the group must serve the soju for their elders first, and it doesn’t apply only to age, but also hierarchy. You also need to use both hands to pour the drink and to receive the glass after it is poured. It’s also considered to be rude there if you pour yourself a drink.

It is usually served chilled too, which is perfect for the warmer seasons and an accompaniment for hot foods like stew or grilled meat! It tastes neutral and less harsh than vodka. Some even said that it’s the Korean version of vodka!

Even though traditionally original soju tastes neutral with a hint of sweetness to it, nowadays there are several kinds of soju flavors! Some of the most popular soju flavors are green grape soju, peach soju, and strawberry soju!

It’s always a good time to be together, so invite your family and friends to have a barbecue. Or if you have a Korean friend, try to impress them with the Korean drinking etiquette you have learned! Though watching a video about it is probably better than my short description of it.

Let’s create more happy memories and watch the flowers too, I’ll be waiting for your stories next week!

Sincerely, Gembira

Here to make your soul happy!
